Former Love Island star Ovie Soko has suggested that the show's producers may have "cut out" Shaughna Phillips and Luke Mabbott's romance as speculation grows that she is faking her feelings for the Justin Bieber lookalike.

The former Islander and basketball star, 29, opened up to Mirror TV about his thoughts on claims that Shaughna may not be as authentic as she seems and pointed out that producers "make the storylines".

Last night, viewers watched as Shaughna confessed her feelings to a shocked Luke Mabbott as friend-turned-love rival Demi Jones cried in the Beach Hut.

Tonight, each of the male Islanders reveal who they will be recoupling with as one girl is dumped - and it seems increasingly likely that it will either be Demi or Luke.

Ovie pointed out that it's only one out of 24 hours that viewers are watching from the show and there is a lot that they won't have seen and that the producers are the ones that create the storylines.

"I can see where everyone else is coming from but then again I always have to say, it's only an hour out of 24 hours that we see," he told us. "Who's to say that in the other 23 hours of that day those guys have been connecting on another level we haven't seen or the producers haven't picked up on?

"I think whenever we're looking as this we need to take more into account the producers. We don't give them enough credit in the papers and as fans we don't give them enough.

"The producers, they make the storylines, they put the music behind it, they create the theatrics, they record the storyline that they want to record and they don't show the parts they don't want to record. So it could look foreign to all of us when in reality, they possibly could have been getting on so yeah, that's a tough one to call."

Ovie also reckons "100%" that there should be fewer social media stars included within the hit ITV2 show's line-up and more "relatable" people with jobs.

He said: "I've said that, in my opinion, I would rather [they] go and pluck them from work places and pluck them from all over, people that can really relate to. People will tune in massively because then they're more relatable, they're not people who have been in the public eye so they might have learnt how to carry themselves.

"At the end of the day, Love Island is a social experiment. so the best social experiment is one that you can have the most normal people possible, not the people whose job requires them to be in the public eye, requires them to maybe carry themselves a certain way.

"People can really, really relate to the postman and to the milkman and the baristas because these are the kind of people you come across every single day."

As well as creating his own clothing lines and playing basketball, busy Ovie is working with Amber Gill for Love Island's headline sponsor Just Eat, which has included them trying their hand at being delivery drivers and sharing their opinion of each of the original Islanders.

He said: "We had such a laugh practising being Just Eat delivery drivers, though I think they need to make a bigger bike for me!"

Amber added: "It’s so much fun to be reunited with Ovie, we both get on so well and always have such a laugh."
