Bradley Cooper ‘has been asked to play Barry Gibb’ in upcoming Bee Gees biopic

Bradley Cooper is reportedly being lined up to play Barry Gibb in the upcoming Bee Gees biopic, according to new reports.

The A Star Is Born actor, 45, has allegedly been contacted by producers who want him to play the eldest of the Gibb brothers, according to the Daily Mail.

The Bee Gees was made up of brothers Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb, and the biopic following the life and career of the band is set to be produced by Graham King, who also worked on the Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody.

The film is set to follow the band from the time they arrived in London from Australia and had their first number one hit with Massachusetts in 1967.

The following years saw the band face struggles with addiction issues, and the film is set to look at all aspects of their lives.

The movie is yet untitled and a director is still to be confirmed for the project, but Paramount Pictures are involved in the film and have purchased the rights to use the Bee Gees music from the Gibb estate.

Paramount recently worked on Rocketman, the Elton John biopic starring Taron Egerton, and the script is being written by Anthony McCarten, who also scripted Bohemian Rhapsody.

Bradley’s involvement in the movie is yet to be officially confirmed, and no other casting has yet been announced.

The actor stunned as Jackson Maine in A Star Is Born, where he showed off his singing ability – and that will definitely come in handy if he accepts the role of Barry Gibb, given the Bee Gees’ famous high notes.

Barry is the last surviving member of the band, following Maurice’s death at the age of 53 in 2003, after complications from a twisted intestine led to a cardiac arrest, and Robin’s death in 2012 aged 62 after battling cancer and liver and kidney failure.

Metro.co.uk has reached out to Bradley’s reps for comment.
