Bengals Have Reportedly Decided Who They’ll Take With First Pick

by

The NFL Draft is two months away, but it sounds like the Cincinnati Bengals already know who they want to select with the first overall pick.

Cincinnati needs a new quarterback to revitalize the franchise. The days of Andy Dalton leading the offense have come to an end, which is also why the front office is looking to find a trade partner for the veteran signal-caller.

It’s still too early for the Bengals to announce their actual plans for the NFL Draft. And yet, the latest report seems to indicate that Zac Taylor and the rest of the staff has decided on who they’ll take in the first round.

According to Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller, the Bengals are set on drafting LSU quarterback Joe Burrow with the top pick. It would take a massive haul for the team to consider trading away the pick, but even in that scenario they might not bite.

Here’s what Miller had to say, via Bleacher Report:

According to a coach who worked with Burrow in college, Cincinnati has clearly signaled the former LSU quarterback is its choice without coming out and saying it. And that’s how the NFL wants it. There is an unwritten rule that teams not tip their hands as far as the top pick, as the league wants the drama and excitement of the selection’s announcement on live television.

Burrow is coming off arguably the best season in the history of college football. He won the Heisman Trophy, led the LSU Tigers to their first national title since 2007 and raised his draft stock to a level that many thought wasn’t possible.

Despite some rumblings about Burrow potentially refusing to play for the Bengals, there is no clear indication that would happen.

We’ll find out in April if Cincinnati is truly set on Joe Burrow.
