Jubilee Updates on Tuju's Health

The Jubilee Party on Friday, February 14, issued an update on its Secretary General Raphael Tuju's health.

The party stated that Tuju was under very good medical care administered by a team of specialists and nurses at the Karen Hospital.

Through communications director Albert Memusi, the party informed that the CS was responding well to treatment and expressed content with the level of services offered to him.

"He is responding well to the treatment and making good progress in his recuperation," the statement by the party read in part.

"As a party, we are in close contact with his immediate family and they have expressed satisfaction with the level of care being provided," it added.

Jubilee thanked the team of doctors, nurses, as well as the rest of the staff at the Karen Hospital working round the clock to ensure his recovery.

"We also wish to most sincerely thank the team from Kijabe Hospital for their support and quick intervention after the accident," the statement reads.

"The party requests that we continue to pray for his quick recovery," it concluded.

Tuju was admitted at the Karen Hospital on the evening of Wednesday, February 12 after being airlifted from Kijabe Mission Hospital where he underwent surgery after the grisly early morning accident at Magina along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.

It was reported that the Jubilee sec-gen sustained injuries in the chest.

He was en-route to Mzee Daniel arap Moi's Kabarak home for the former head of state's final send-off that set for the same day.

According to various reports, a matatu rammed into Tuju's car in a head-on collision as the matatu driver switched lanes to avoid crashing into a saloon car ahead of him.

The Toyota Allion had reportedly slowed down to allow a car ahead of it to branch into a feeder road on the right causing the matatu to veer onto the lane Tuju's oncoming vehicle was on. 

Tuju’s bodyguard, Charles Oyaro, and his driver, Austin Oinde, sustained injuries as well.

The matatu driver identified as Bernard Kariuki was found unconscious and was taken to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Kijabe Hospital.
