EDMOND - All-male repertory dance company 10 Hairy Legs will perform at 7:30 tonight at Mitchell Hall Theatre at UCO, 100 N University Drive.
The performance is offered as part of the University of Central Oklahoma’s Broadway Tonight series, in partnership with the UCO Department of Dance, according to a news release.
Founded in 2012, 10 Hairy Leg places an emphasis on dance education and provides programming exemplifying the many facets of maleness expressed through dance.
“These are five unbelievable athletes who are also five unbelievable artists,” said Greg White, director of the UCO Broadway Tonight series, in a statement.
“The dance world is so often associated with women, but these men redefine what dance can be through incredible athleticism, versatility, strength and interconnection.”
Widely acclaimed for its aggressive commissioning of new works and curation of masterworks, the company has served more than 85,000 patrons, students, artists and educators both nationally and internationally since its founding. It provides a wide range of programs for all ages to more than 2,500 students and educators each year, according to the news release.
The members of 10 Hairy Legs have in residency at UCO the past week, setting a new work on the university's award-winning Kaleidoscope Dance Company. The students will perform with the company at tonight's performance.
The 2019-20 Broadway Tonight series season is supported in part by the Oklahoma Arts Council, which receives support from the State of Oklahoma and the National Endowment for the Arts.
“Broadway Tonight strives to bring a diverse range of artists from tried and true industry ‘names’ to up-and-coming, cutting-edge artists. With the recent #BoysDanceToo movement, what could be more relevant and more utterly enjoyable than 10 Hairy Legs,” White said in a statement.
