A clean sweep for city

The City of Vernon are the broomball champions again, winning by a score of 3-1 in the Winter Carnival finals on Friday.

The city's team featured staff, Coun. Akbal Mund in net, and even Mayor Victor Cumming at centre.

This is the second year in a row the city has won the carnival tournament, and they hope to keep it going next year.

"It's nice to keep winning," says Mund. "Hopefully, next year we can get more teams out and make it a bigger tournament."

Mund plays a Dominik Hasek-style of goaltending, where he dives around and does everything he can to keep the ball out of the net. This style of play is effective, but it can take a beating on your body.

"Hitting the ground and having those balls bounce off of you can take a toll sometimes," he says.

"But I enjoy it, it's nice to get out and play with some of the younger people."
