Gmail for iOS rolling out uploading attachments via Apple’s Files app
by Christian ZibregThe free Gmail app for iPhone and iPad will soon permit customers to upload various attachments straight from Apple’s native Files app, Google announced yesterday.
“You can now upload attachments from the Files app when composing or replying to an email in Gmail,” the company announced on Twitter.
You’ll notice a little paperclip icon in the Gmail composer — tap it to pull up a sheet for adding attachments, then tap Attachments and finally hit a new folder icon if you’d like to upload attachments from your own device or cloud-storage services through Apple’s native Files app.
According to Google’s blog post, this is a staggered rollout that may take longer than fifteen days for feature visibility, starting on February 12, 2020. It’s unclear if the roll-out is a server-side change requiring no app update or if an update to the mobile Gmail app will be needed..
Gmail for iOS is a free download from App Store.
Gmail celebrated its 15the anniversary on April 1 (not a joke).
