Former Panthers TE Greg Olsen “In Contract Negotiations” With 3 NFL Teams

by

It looks like we might be seeing Greg Olsen back on the football field in 2020 after all. Despite entering the commentators’ booth for the XFL this past week, Olsen is continuing to pursue his NFL career. After a multitude of visits to teams, it appears he has narrowed down his list to three.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Olsen is currently in contract negotiations with the Buffalo Bills, Washington Redskins and Seattle Seahawks. Per the report, he is done with his visits.

Olsen started 14 games for the Carolina Panthers this past year. He finished the season with 52 receptions for 597 yards and two touchdowns. But the team announced after the season that they would not bring the 34-year-old tight end back.

In 13 NFL seasons between the Chicago Bears and Panthers, Olsen has recorded 718 catches for 8,444 yards and 59 touchdowns. He made three straight Pro Bowls with Carolina between 2014 and 2016.

But injuries have started to mount in recent years. He missed nine games in 2017, seven games in 2018, and two this year.

After leaving Carolina though, many thought he would use his gift of gab to enter the broadcast booth. Considering the success former tight ends like Tony Gonzalez, Shannon Sharpe, and Rob Gronkowski have had as analysts, it’s hardly outside the realm of possibility.

Olsen made his broadcast debut in Sunday’s XFL game between the New York Guardians and Tampa Bay Vipers. He was widely praised for his performance alongside Kevin Burkhardt.

Which NFL team – if any – will Greg Olsen play for in 2020?
