Steve Bruce quizzed on the takeover - and whether there'll soon be a contract update

Jetro Willems has reiterated his desire to play for Newcastle United once again in a message to the club's supporters.

The Dutch international impressed in a loan spell from Bundesliga outfit Frankfurt before his stint on Tyneside was cruelly cut short by injury.

The 25-year-old netted memorable strikes against Liverpool and Manchester City, and quickly struck up a rapport on the left flank with fellow summer signing Allan Saint-Maximin.

Newcastle reportedly had a future fee set in the loan deal, and were understood to be mulling over a potential permanent transfer given Willems' performances.

Willems himself stated on several occasions how much he was enjoying his time in the North East.

However, the wing-back was stretchered off in the early stages of the Magpies' last-gasp victory over Chelsea at St James' Park on January 18 after rupturing his cruciate ligaments.

Willems returned to his parent club to undergo an operation, and is now in the early stages of his rehabilitation.

The wing-back paid a visit to United's Benton base on Friday, and recorded a message thanking fans for their messages of support in recent weeks.

In a post from the club's official account wishing the Dutchman a "speedy recovery", Willems said: "Hi Newcastle fans. Thanks for the messages and everything.

"I am doing well. I hope it wasn't my last game for Newcastle so see you guys soon."

The Dutchman added in an interview with the club's website: "This seven months - not only the goals but the time enjoyed with the players, the city, the fans and everything in it.

"I really enjoyed it here."
