A 27 year-old man chopped off his 54 year-old girlfriend’s arm with a machete when she asked him for her Xanax, police say.

Ryan Tyndall reportedly hacked the unnamed victim’s arm off below the elbow at a house in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on Tuesday morning.

Cops called to the scene were greeted by Tindall’s father, who took them to the injured woman.

They quickly performed first aid to stop her bleeding to death.

During a subsequent interview, the woman said she asked Tyndall for her anti-anxiety medication while in their living room.

He told her it was in the bedroom, prompting the woman to walk down there to get it.

She told police she felt a sharp pain in her arm as she walked into the room, then realized she’d been cut.

The woman said she then ran to Tyndall’s home, about a block away, to call for help, The Fayetteville Observer reported.

Tyndall reportedly drove up to the house after police had arrived, and was immediately taken into custody.

His alleged victim was airlifted to Duke Medical Center, where she underwent an emergency operation.

She is expected to survive the amputation.

Tyndall was taken for hospital treatment, and subsequently charged with attempted first-degree murder, as well as assault with a deadly weapon.

No motive has been given for the horrific attack, with Tyndall appearing glassy-eyed in a jail mugshot.

He is being held at Cumberland County Jail ahead of his next court appearance.
