Woodbine's updated 2020 stakes schedule shifts Queen's Plate preps

Woodbine Entertainment has released an updated stakes schedule for the 2020 Thoroughbred meet with dates adjusted for a handful of early and late season events.

Woodbine’s Thoroughbred racing season will begin on Saturday, April 18, and Opening Day will now feature the Star Shoot Stakes and Woodstock Stakes. The Fury Stakes and Queenston Stakes have also been moved up on the schedule to Saturday, May 2. In addition, the dates for the Selene (G3) and Marine (G3) have been changed and both events will now be held on Saturday, May 16. The dates have been adjusted to better accommodate these key 3-year-old preps for The Queen’s Plate.

Changes have also been made to the dates of the following stakes scheduled toward the end of the season: South Ocean (Saturday, November 14), Frost King (Sunday, November 15), Mazarine (G3, Sunday, November 22), Grade 3 Grey (G3, Sunday, November 22), La Prevoyante (Wednesday, December 2), Steady Growth (Wednesday, December 2), Ballade (Saturday, December 12), and Ontario Jockey Club (Saturday, December 12).

The 2020 season will begin with live Thoroughbred racing on Saturdays and Sundays in late April. The racing schedule will expand in May, with the addition of Fridays then Wednesday nights or afternoon racing on holiday Mondays. In total, Woodbine will host 133 race dates and 87 stakes events through December 13.
