Parikrama's lead guitarist Sonam Sherpa dies of cardiac arrest

48-year-old Sonam Sherpa who is the founder of the well-acclaimed band Parikrama died in Kurseong today. The musician was in Kurseong to record for his upcoming movie and reportedly succumbed to cardiac arrest.

Sherpa was known to be playing guitars since he was nine years old, and went on to form the band Parikrama in 1991 in Delhi along with Subir Malik who plays organ in the band. Some of his popular works include But It Rained, Tears of the Wizard and Am I Dreaming.

Talking about his sudden demise, Subir Malik said, "I am myself in a state of shock and I am on my way to meet his family in New Delhi. He was in Kurseong to record music for an upcoming movie. It is still not clear where the last rites will be performed." The musician is survived by his wife and son. While the fans are in mourning, the future of the band remains unclear.

For the unversed, cardiac arrest is the sudden loss of blood flow, which leads to failure of the heart to pump blood to the rest of the body effectively. Some of the signs of cardiac arrest include abnormal breathing and loss of consciousness. Other symptoms include chest pain, shortness of breath before cardiac arrest really happens.
