Trump to meet with top business executives during India visit

President Trump will meet with executives of Indian companies with business interests in the United States during his visit to New Delhi this month, Reuters reported.

The companies expected to be represented at the meeting include the Indian oil and gas company Reliance Industries, diversified group Tata Sons and auto sector companies such as Bharat Forge, Mahindra and Mahindra and Motherson, sources confirmed to the outlet.

Trump is set to visit India on Feb. 24-25 for the first time since taking office. He will travel to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state of Gujarat and attend talks in New Delhi. 

The leaders are likely to discuss and possibly finalize a bilateral trade deal during the visit.

The meeting with business officials is set for Feb. 25 in New Delhi. The leaders will reportedly include those focused on job creation and manufacturing in the U.S., sources confirmed to Reuters.

The president is "keen on acknowledging Indian companies which are focusing on manufacturing in the United States,” an unnamed Washington-based source aware of the plans told the outlet.

The event is unlikely to include executives of U.S. companies.

Mahindra announced last year that it will invest $1 billion in the United States, and Bharat Forge has announced plans to invest $56 million into a new plant in North Carolina.

The Tata Group has said it is one of the largest multinationals in North America headquartered in India, including 13 companies and over 35,000 employees, according to Reuters. 

More than 100,000 people are expected to attend an event in a cricket stadium honoring Trump’s visit to India hosted by Modi.
