Quantic Dream Goes Independent: "We Have Become Masters of Our Own Destiny"

by

Quantic Dream says that after 23 years it is "now in a position to self-publish." In a... descriptive announcement last night the Paris-based developer of Detroit: Become Human and Heavy Rain told fans that "after 23 years of learning, discovery, and growth, the studio is now going independent."

Co-CEOs David Cage and Guillaume de Fondaumière describe the move as "becom[ing] masters of our own destiny." Harking back across the studio's history, in which Quantic Dream has worked with the likes of Willem Dafoe and David Bowie, the pair says that "even by those standards, the last two years have been exceptional." Referencing the success of Detroit: Become Human and the launch of a number of the studio's games on PC for the first time, they say that they have "been able to realise the vision we held dear since the creation of Quantic Dream" in going independent.

Despite the change, Quantic Dream says that it "remains true to its roots." There's no word on what that actually means - there are a lot of big words like "humanism" and "solidarity" being bandied around, but it seems that we're unlikely to actually see the results of the transition for a little while yet.
