At one point in the summer, it was claimed Liverpool winger Harry Wilson was heading to Aston Villa.

Wilson had enjoyed a terrific season on loan at Derby County scoring 16 goals and was part of the Rams side beaten 2-1 by Villa in the Championship play-off final in May.

He returned to Liverpool and there was intense speculation that he was on Villa’s radar during the transfer window.

In the end Dean Smith snapped up Trezeguet, Anwar El Ghazi and Jota on permanent deals to provide support to his strikers in the final third and Wilson joined Bournemouth on loan for the season.

The 22-year-old has been a stand-out performer for Villa’s relegation rivals, scoring seven goals in 21 games.

But Liverpool have accepted the Welsh international is unlikely to break into Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans are willing to sell him, according to reports.

Football Insider says the emergence of other young talents such as Curtis Jones at Anfield means the Reds will look to offload Wilson when he returns to Merseyside in the summer.

It is reported they will ask for around £30m for the academy graduate who has three years left to run on his contract.
