Motorists to pay more for petrol, diesel as import bill rises

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 14- Motorists will from mid-night pay more for super petrol after the energy watchdog hiked the price of the commodity by Sh2.67 to retail at Sh112.87, compared to last month’s Sh110.20.

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has also increased the price of diesel by Sh2.13 to trade at Sh104.45 compared to Sh102.32 in the last one month.

Kerosene users will, however, find relief after the Authority decreased its price by Sh1.26 to trade at Sh102.69.

The commission says the pumping up of fuel prices is as a result of averaged landed cost of imported Super Petrol in recent months.

“The changes in this month’s prices are a consequence of the average landed cost of imported super petrol increasing by 3.91 percent from Sh4,731 per cubic metre in December 2019 to Sh49,262 per cubic metre in January 2020,” the regulator said.

In Nairobi, the new prices for Diesel has been set Sh104.45 and that of Kerosene is Sh102.69.

The coastal region will retail Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene at Sh110.40, Sh101.98, and Sh100.21 respectively till next month.

Kisumu on the other end will purchase Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene at a cost of Sh113.58, Sh105.37, and Sh103.61.

Motorists in Nakuru will pay Sh112.61 for super petrol, 104.41 for Diesel, and Sh102.65 for Kerosene.

For Eldoret, they will pay for the fuel trading at Sh113.59 for Petrol, Sh105.38 for Diesel and purchase Kerosene at a cost of Sh103.61.

The new prices will be in force from February 15 to March 14 2020.
