Arsenal academy graduate Reiss Nelson believes Mikel Arteta can replicate his successes at Manchester City and turn him into the next Raheem Sterling or Leroy Sane.

Arteta joined City in 2016 as Pep Guardiola's assistant manager and helped the Blues break numerous records under the Catalan's guidance.

The now Arsenal manager won two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two EFL Cups during his time with City before replacing Unai Emery as Gunners boss in December. Arsenal won their first game under Arteta against Manchester United on New Years Day.

One of Arteta's biggest achievements at City was transforming both Sterling and Sane into two of the finest wingers in the Premier League, helping both realise their immense potential.

Sterling is now one considered of the most lethal forwards in the division, netting 11 Premier League goals this season, while Sane reached double figures for league goals in back to back campaigns before injury in August curtailed his progress.

Nelson believes that the Spaniard can have a similar impact on his game.

"It is crazy because you look at Sterling and Sane and you see them before at their previous teams, they weren’t doing what they do now," he told the Evening Standard.

"I think that is credit to Pep, of course, but Mikel as well because they said he did a lot of one-to-one work with them.

"You can see it because Mikel’s drive is different. I haven’t seen a manager with that much determination to make individuals into better players.

"I have all my belief in Mikel and I think he is going to make me into a top player."
