Kabir Khan insists ’83’ is not a Kapil Dev biopic
by Shyama SudraIt’s the film that everyone seems to be waiting for. With glimpses of most of the characters out, Kabir Khan has a lot riding on his shoulder for ’83’, which has Ranveer Singh playing the lead role as ex-Indian Cricket captain Kapil Dev. However, the filmmaker has expressed how this is not a biopic. Instead, it’s more about the story of how the 1983 Indian cricket team won the world cup.
Talking to the media about the film, Khan instantly stated, “It’s not a Kapil Dev biopic, it is 25 days story from June 1 to June 25, 1983,” Deccan Chronicle reports the director stating.
With Singh starring as the lead, this is the first time the actor and filmmaker have collaborated. Talking about Singh, Khan was all praise for the way he has taken on his role. “We stayed at Kapil Dev’s house. Ranveer works hard and he would follow him (Dev) from early morning tea with business meetings. Ranveer would tell him, ‘I will sit in a corner’ but Kapil would say, ‘Who will attend my meeting if you are around?’” Khan explained.
He went on to say, “Ranveer is a great observer and he definitely does every move to the T. He is just ready to give his best. He has held the expressions exuberantly well. You will agree after watching the movie.”
Also starring Deepika Padukone, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu and many more, ’83’ is set to hit the big screens on 10th April.
