Reports: Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Man of the Tournament trophy ruptures into two pieces

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Man of the Tournament trophy: The star batsman reportedly found his trophy broken into two pieces.

India U-19 opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal admits playing a “bad shot” during the final match of the recently concluded ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup against Bangladesh in Potchefstroom.

Having scored 88 (121) with the help of eight fours and a six, Jaiswal top-scored for India in a match where they were bundled out for 177 in 47.2 overs.

In an interview after losing the World Cup, Jaiswal reveled that the ball came much faster than he anticipated. “I played a bad shot, it wasn’t needed at that time. The ball came much faster than I expected. I had got a slower ball just before that,” Jaiswal said.

Jaiswal also disclosed that he received a call from veteran batsman Wasim Jaffer before the final. With both players being from Mumbai, Jaiswal has previously also talked about receiving suggestions from the senior batsman.

“I was a bit nervous and he told me that I am doing well, and just take time in the middle. But it didn’t go our way. Nothing has changed for me, of course, it would have been great if we had won it but it’s not the end of the world,” Jaiswal added.

If another set of reports are to be believed, Jaiswal’s Man of the Tournament trophy has been broken into two pieces. While the reason behind the same is not known, Jaiswal’s coach confirmed the same in a conversation with The Indian Express.

“This isn’t the first time! He cares more about runs, doesn’t fuss too much about trophies,” Jaiswal’s childhood coach Jwala Singh was quoted as saying.

In another development, it is supposed that Jaiswal’s trophy has now been fixed. “The said trophy suffered damage during transit, but we have now fixed it. Such things happen during travel,” a source in vicinity of Jaiswal was recently quoted as saying.

In the six matches that he played in the tournament, the southpaw scored 400 runs at an average of 133.33 and a strike rate of 82.47 including one century and four half-centuries.
