Love Island - Shaughna asks Jamie from Edinburgh if he supports Rangers or Celtic - he answers Newcastle!

Love Island star Jamie Clayton's comments about Newcastle United and Scottish football have sparked outrage on Twitter.

Before he even entered the villa as a new arrival, Jamie went on a date with Shaughna when the topic of football came up.

Shaughna said to Jamie: "So Scottish...Edinburgh...do you support Rangers or Celtic," to which he replied: "Scottish football is abysmal."

When asked by Shaughna who he supports Jamie told her Newcastle United, before slamming the club in a rather brutal put-down, quipping: "Who are also abysmal."

Shaughna then stuck the knife into the Magpies even further by saying: "You've got great character then...because they're shocking," before admitting she was an Arsenal fan.

But it was Jamie's comments that prompted the most reaction from footy fans, with some loving the fact he supports the Magpies but others fuming with what he said.

A fellow NUFC fan tweeted: " Jamie from #LoveIsland to win as he supports Newcastle," and another reacting: "Jamie supports Newcastle so automatically hes the best one in the villa."

However, taking a different tact altogether, one livid Scottish football fan posted: "First let me be clear. I dont want that pish but today someone shared a clip about some doll asking a fella on Love Island do you support Rangers or Celtic. He replied na Scottish football is abysmal. But he had the actual cheek to reply he supports Newcastle Utd. Seriously," and another tweeted: "Hope Newcastle get relegated and go bust now all because of that g*** on Love Island."

Chronicle readers have been having their say too. And in response to Shaughna's dig, one commented: "Were That rubbish we have won 8 games out of the last 20 and arsenal have won 4." Sadly for Steve Bruce's men, others agreed, with one reader posting: "To be fair hes right."
