Google claims Baldur’s Gate 3 is coming this year, but Larian says it’s a mistake

by
February 14, 2020 Larian says Baldur’s Gate 3 was included in Google’s community newsletter in error. A representative of the studio tells PCGamesN: “We haven’t announced a release period, and were included in that lineup email in error.” Notably, the studio did not deny the release window, it merely said its inclusion was a mistake. Larian’s representative declined to confirm if Baldur’s Gate 3 would indeed launch this year. Original story follows.

Google has seemingly let slip the Baldur’s Gate 3 release date. In a new blog post regarding plans for Stadia in 2020, the tech giant says the highly anticipated RPG will launch this year.

“You’re already looking forward to Doom Eternal, Get Packed, Orcs Must Die! 3, Baldur’s Gate 3, and many more games coming to Stadia this year,” reads the statement, before explaining more about some new titles announced for the streaming platform.

This is the first time we’ve heard anything about a potential release window for Baldur’s Gate 3; developer Larian has kept its cards close to its chest so far, refusing to even confirm what year the game will launch. However, there is a Baldur’s Gate 3 announcement coming later this month, so it’s possible the studio could reveal more then. We’ve contacted the developer’s representatives for comment on Google’s indication of a 2020 launch date.

Baldur’s Gate 3 details remain in short supply otherwise, though we do know it’s coming to PC and to Google Stadia, and that it will have co-op multiplayer.

Stadia, meanwhile, will add three new timed exclusive games in the coming months. Lost Words: Beyond the Page, Stacks on Stacks (on Stacks), and Spitlings will all come to Google’s streaming service this spring or summer, before coming to other platforms further down the line. A Serious Sam Collection and Panzer Dragoon: Remake will also launch on Stadia during that period, though these are not timed exclusives.
