Man in his 70s arrested by gardaí investigating Scouting Ireland sex abuse allegations
by NewstalkA man in his 70s has been arrested by gardaí investigating complaints about an individual associated with Scouting Ireland.
Gardaí say the arrest is in relation to sexual offences that are alleged to have occurred over a 30-year period, dating back to the 1980s.
As part of the investigation, four properties in Co Cork and one in Co Kerry have been searched - with documents, electronic devices and computers seized.
Gardaí say they're continuing to liaise with Tusla and have thanked them for their assistance.
In a statement, the force said: "Each and every complaint made to An Garda Síochána will be investigated with professionalism and compassion.
"An Garda Síochána is appealing to any victim(s) who have not yet come forward to make a complaint at their local Garda station or via the confidential historical abuse phone line at 1800 555 222."
The man - who was arrested this morning - is currently being held at Togeher Garda Station.
