Lewis Hamilton: "I really don't feel pressure" ahead of the 2020 season

by

Mercedes have launched their W11 ahead of the new season and both Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas are looking forward to getting in it later today. This season could be historic for Hamilton who has the chance of equalling Michael Schumacher's all-time record for the number of driver championships.

The Mercedes family

If this is going to be the year Hamilton equals that record then he will be pleased to do it with the team he has known for such a long time.

"It's a great experience to experience all this at Mercedes," Hamilton said. "I have been there since 1998 and have been part of the growth of the company. First at McLaren and when they joined Formula 1 as a team, I finally made the switch. This is just my family.

"I really don't feel pressure right now. Of course, you focus on what you have to do, but it is also about enjoying. It is an honor to be able to experience this. Hundreds of people have been working on this car and you can test it yourself. The atmosphere is really unique with this team ''

Hamilton sets the tone for 2020

Bottas finished the 2019 season 2nd but was some way off his teammate. Hamilton expects the Finn to be more competitive this year and when asked about the likes of Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc challenging him he said he'd do his talking on the track.

"The fight between us will, of course, be interesting for you and it will be difficult for us. Regarding Charles and Max, I prefer to talk on the track. If you start talking outside the track, I see that only as a weakness."

It will be interesting to see if anyone can genuinely challenge Hamilton or if he will just ease to yet another championship.
