‘King’ - Aston Villa fans are absolutely loving player’s Tottenham post

Aston Villa news - Borja Baston, the deadline day signing from Swansea City, will be involved in the AVFC squad for the first time when Tottenham visit Villa Park on Sunday

January signing Borja Baston will be involved in Aston Villa’s squad for the first time against Tottenham this weekend.

The striker was a deadline day capture from Swansea City, arriving on a free transfer for the rest of the season in a final boost to Dean Smith’s squad.

He wasn’t in the matchday 18 against Bournemouth in Villa’s last game, with Keinan Davis providing attacking support off the bench in the 2-1 defeat.

But with Davis having picked up another hamstring injury, Borja is the only senior backup to Mbwana Samatta.

Asked if the 27-year-old is in line to make his debut on Sunday, Smith confirmed:“Yes, certainly involved. Since he's come in he's trained well. He knows a couple of players anyway, Pepe Reina and Jota.

“I've been really pleased with the training. It's almost like the players needed that break to go and reflect, review and regenerate their batteries.

“Training has been a really good standard and hopefully that's a good sign for the 13-game run-in. We've got a third of the season left and we're going to scrap and battle for every point.”

Ahead of the game, the forward has taken to Twitter, posting: "Countdown..." with along with the hourglass emoji and the AVLTOT hashtag.
