Square Enix officially release the Final Fantasy VII Remake opening movie
by Stefan LAs its release creeps ever closer, Square Enix have just released the opening movie for Final Fantasy VII Remake. With newly orchestrated music, it sweeps into the city of Midgar, introducing us to the world once more ahead of the game’s 10th April release for PlayStation 4.
Let’s compare that to the E3 PS3 technical test demo that sparked the demand for a ground-up remake in the first place, shall we?
Yup, I can quite comfortably say that it looks much better in 2020 than it did in 2005. There’s just hugely more detailed characters, environmental textures, lighting and more. What a difference 15 years makes, eh?
This is more than just a graphical overhaul, but a complete redesign of the game, fleshing out the game’s story and environments to create a three-part release, and bringing real-time elements into the formerly turn-based combat.
Miguel went hands on with the game at E3 2019, saying, “It’s still hard to believe, but this game really is coming. Whether we get one disc or three, the content is bound to be worthwhile if this brief demo was any indication. The decision to shift form turn-based action to something more real time will remain contentious for devout fans, but it’s inventive and rewarding. Square observed the flaws of their action combat from Final Fantasy XV, and improved on every part of it. Having gone hands on, I now can’t wait for even more when the game launches in March 2020.”
Wait, March? Unfortunately, you won’t be playing it in March, as Square Enix decided a little more time was needed and the release date was pushed back to April 10th. This has had the added side-effect of pushing back the exclusivity period to April 2021 before the game can appear on other platforms, so even Xbox owners will have to hold on a little longer.
Square also gave us a fresh drop of screenshots yesterday, showing off Red XIII, Professor Hojo, summons, environments and more. There’s a lot of them, so head over to that story to check them out.
