The first 1 News Colmar Brunton poll of the year shows National just scraping in to power and New Zealand First out of Parliament.

The poll shows National and ACT pulling together the numbers to form a government.

While Labour enjoys the first increase in months, the Greens and New Zealand First have seen a drop in support.

It's the third 1 News Colmar Brunton poll to show National in the drivers seat.

The poll ran from Saturday 8 February to last night, meaning it takes into account National leader Simon Bridges ruling out New Zealand First as a potential coalition partner.

Jacinda Ardern is still riding high in the preferred prime minister stakes.

Preferred prime minster:

Confidence in the economy has grown to the highest result since Mary 2018, with 40 percent expecting the economy to improve in the next 12 months, while 34 percent thought it would get worse, and 26 percent thought it would stay the same.
