Sillage's Spring 2020 Embraces Clean Lines & Billowing Layers
The Tokyo-based label crafts gender-fluid silhouettes.

Tokyo-based label Sillage has unveiled its Spring 2020 collection. The brainchild of Nicolas Yuthanan Chalmeau, the brand is known for its billowing styles, characterized by exaggerated volumes and understated palettes, putting a playful spin on traditional silhouettes. Set amidst a series of soft earth-toned backdrops, this season’s lookbook demonstrates the gender-fluid nature of each piece, while emphasizing the collection’s oversized cuts.
This season spans a series of elongated trench coats, wide trousers, loose-fitting button-ups, denim jackets and other essential layers enlivened by a range of mature Spring palettes: cream-ivory, chambray, beige, charcoal gray and black. Garments like the extended trench coat and beige cropped Sand Ventile Raglan Overhood jacket present a contemporary take on bespoke staples, complemented by rich breezy textiles like linen and wool for a rustic look and feel. The Cream Western jacket is one noteworthy piece in the lineup. It comes with contrasting silver-toned buttons, tonal stitching and subtle “Sillage” branding along the upper left chest — its wide, boxy cut and voluminous sleeves complete the design.
Another highlight is a collaboration with Japanese label Individualized Shirts. The shirt is stamped with a serif-style “INDIVIDUALIZED” logo at the back atop thin blue vertical stripes. Other pieces like the all-black Tropical Wool Blazer, matching button-up and trousers, striped oxfords, loose slacks and light indigo shirts shine a light on Yuthanan’s penchant for crafting sartorial layers with a distinctive twist.
