Storm Dennis: Newcastle United fans warned to expect delays ahead of Arsenal trip

Magpies supporters are heading the capital on Sunday for their clash at the Emirates Stadium

Newcastle United fans heading to London by train for Sunday's game against Arsenal have been warned to expect delays.

The rail network is braced for more disruption this weekend due to the affects of Storm Dennis, which is set to hit the UK over the coming days.

While the worst of the storm is expected to be over by Sunday, the conditions are still thought to be difficult for travel.

And train operator LNER have this morning warned travellers their journey could be subject to delays - or even train cancellations.

A statement on their website read: "Storm Dennis is forecast to bring heavy rain and strong winds across parts of the UK on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th February 2020.

"Speed restrictions will be in place across our network on both days.

"As a result, extended journey times, short-notice delays and cancellations are expected.

"We’re continuing to monitor the situation with Network Rail and our industry partners, and we will keep you updated. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

Newcastle fans have sold out their allocation for the game at the Emirates Stadium, which kicks off at 4.30pm on Sunday.

For train updates, be sure to check the LNER website, and we will have the latest in our live blog on ChronicleLive throughout the weekend.
