Mayweather reveals crazy plan to fight McGregor and Khabib on the same dayby Phil Haigh
Floyd Mayweather claims he has talked to UFC president Dana White about fighting Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov on the same day.
Mayweather officially retired from boxing after stopping McGregor in the 10th round of their fight in August 2017, but appears to still be open to big offers to step back into the ring.
The 50-0 legend returned for an exhibition bout against Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa on New Year’s Eve 2018 and he could put the gloves on again.
A rematch with McGregor has been touted, as has a bout with Khabib, and Mayweather says he has talked to White about both those fights happening within hours of each other.
‘I even talked about fighting Khabib and Conor in the same day,’ Mayweather told Drink Champs. ‘Khabib in the day and Conor at night. You pay one fee, probably $250, and you get both fights.’
Both McGregor and Khabib are busy with UFC commitments in the coming months, with the Irishman claiming he plans to fight three times this year and Khabib scheduled to defend his lightweight title against Tony Ferguson in April.
McGregor knocked out Donald Cerrone in under a minute last month and is expected to fight again in the summer and then towards the end of 2020.
Nurmagomedov has floated the idea of boxing Mayweather in the past and his father, Abdulmanap, has suggested a fight that lasts 11 rounds of boxing before a final round of MMA.
‘Mayweather has statistics on fights of 50 wins and zero losses, he is the greatest in boxing,’ said Abdulmanap.
‘He wants to fight with the same champion who did not lose a single fight, Khabib, everything is fine, but now we have Tony Ferguson on the line.
‘We said a long time ago: let us finish with Tony, after that we will work with the team of Ukrainian boxer Vasily Lomachenko for six months, then there will be a boxing fight.
‘We offer any day anywhere, with only one condition – 11 rounds in boxing and one in mixed martial arts.
‘We will stand 11 rounds against the best boxer, so why not go one round according to the rules of MMA with us? But all things will happen after Tony.’
A rematch between Khabib and Conor is much more likely than either man facing Mayweather, although the lightweight champion wants the Irishman to win a string of fights to earn another shot at his belt.
‘Conor needs to earn things,’ Khabib’s manager Ali Abdelaziz told ESPN. ‘He was a champion. He needs to earn things.
‘Khabib really, really wants to make him earn it. It doesn’t matter, because [of] what he says.
‘There’s a lot of money for Khabib if Khabib fights Conor. But everything is not about money. Especially with Khabib.’
