Emilio Estevez joins Mighty Ducks reboot and fans have no chill
by Rishma DosaniThe Mighty Ducks fans went into meltdown after it was revealed there was a reboot on the way, last year.
And Emilio Estevez has officially reprised his role as coach Gordon Bombay for the 10-part Disney+ series – which follows the exploits of a ragtag ice hockey team.
The 57-year-old was pictured on set with his skates on, ready to take the hockey world by storm with a new group of recruits.
Sort of.
The Disney+ Twitter account confirmed the news, sharing two photos of the Breakfast Club actor getting to grips with the ice once more.
‘NO. CHILL. #EmilioEstevez is BACK as Gordon Bombay! Check out this photo from production on The Mighty Ducks, an Original Series coming soon to #DisneyPlus,’ they wrote alongside the uploads.
Fans instantly went wild for the update, living for a dose of much-needed nostalgia.
‘The feels. I just can’t right now,’ one commented, while another replied: ‘I already love all of them.’
‘Oh yeah I love the mighty ducks movies and can’t wait for the series to come to Disney+,’ an excited follower posted.
And many, many more begged the original cast to make cameos.
We’re looking at you, Joshua Jackson.
The original Mighty Ducks franchise kicked off in 1992, with the first film starring Emilio as an attorney who is forced to coach a failing hockey team as part of his community service.
The news comes after it was revealed Rick Moranis is reprising his role in Disney’s revival of Honey, I Shrunk The Kids.
After a 22-year hiatus from acting, he announced his acting comeback on Twitter, sharing a gif of his iconic character Wayne Szalinski, simply telling followers: ‘HONEY, IM BACK.’
With the Mighty Ducks reboot, this Honey, I Shrunk The Kids update and a Saved By The Bell reunion on the way, we are well and truly here for this 90s revival.
Quack, quack, quack, quack.
