Mariah Carey confirmed to headline Brighton Pride 2020 in ‘six figure’ deal
by Kim NovakMariah Carey has been confirmed as the headline act for Brighton Pride 2020, and will be taking the stage on 1 August.
Brighton Pride confirmed the news on Twitter, revealing: ‘Excited to announce global superstar @MariahCarey, GRAMMY & GLAAD Award winner, and best-selling female artist of all time, will headline FABULOSO Pride In The Park on Saturday 1st August 2020 with a full 75 minute show!’
It is claimed that Mariah’s team negotiated a ‘six figure’ deal for the 49-year-old singer to perform at the event.
A source claimed to The Sun: ‘Mariah confirming for Brighton Pride is a huge coup for organisers who’ve been working on this deal for months.
‘It’s taken a lot of negotiation but Mariah’s people have signed her up on a six figure deal. The organisers are so excited about having her there.
‘She’s a huge draw and it’s going to be one hell of a performance.’
Mariah will follow in the footsteps of the likes of Britney Spears and Kylie Minogue, and sources had initially suggested her set would be shorter, though organisers confirmed it would be an hour and 15 minutes long.
Brighton Pride will be Mariah’s first UK show outside of London in over four years, so tickets are sure to be snapped up fast for the one-off date.
While Mariah will headline the Saturday night, the newly-reformed Pussycat Dolls will be the Sunday night headliner.
The event shared the news, confirming: ‘The @pussycatdolls will perform a full 75 minute show at the two day FABULOSO Pride in the Park on Sunday 2nd August and we are delighted that this performance will mark the first time they have ever performed at a Pride event in the UK.’
Director of Brighton & Hove Pride, Paul Kemp told the Worthing Herald of Mariah’s announcement: ‘We are beyond thrilled that Mariah is joining our LGBTQ+ celebrations for our 30th anniversary.
‘Mariah is a staunch LGBTQ+ ally and having her perform at Pride really helps us highlight our campaigning for LGBTQ+ equality to a global audience.
‘Mariah is headlining the main stage but there are loads more artist announcements to come. Watch this space for more great LGBTQ+ performers and allies over the coming weeks.’
Tickets for Brighton Pride are available on the website now.
