Rafael van der Vaart wishes Tottenham had signed new Chelsea recruit Hakim Ziyech

by

Rafael van der Vaart has claimed on Twitter that he wished Hakim Ziyech had chosen to join Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, after it was confirmed the Ajax man would be joining Chelsea in the summer.

Ziyech, 26, has agreed a move to Chelsea, which has been confirmed by both clubs. Ajax confirmed on their official website that an initial fee of £33.3million would be transferred – but that could rise depending on certain variables to £36.7million.

The Moroccan has been linked with a move to the Premier League for quite some time, ever since impressing in the 2018 World Cup with his country. He also starred in Ajax’s Champions League campaign last term, as they reached the semi-finals.

Just this week, The Telegraph had claimed that Spurs liked the look of Ziyech though a move to Chelsea was more likely – and now a deal has been confirmed. Van der Vaart reacted on Twitter, claiming he would have preferred a move to Spurs.

Spurs did raid the Eredivise in the January window, bringing Steven Bergwijn to north London from PSV Eindhoven for a fee believed to be in the region of £27million. He has made an instant impact, scoring against Manchester City.

But Ziyech has opted to pull on the blue of Chelsea instead of a move to north London with van der Vaart’s beloved Spurs. Many Tottenham fans reacted to van der Vaart’s post on Twitter, with the majority agreeing with their former player.
