Coronavirus Outbreak: Death Toll In China Rises To 1,488 As Confirmed Cases Of Infection Surge To Over 64,000

The death toll due to the Coronavirus, which has officially been named as Covid-19, has risen to 1,488 on Friday (14 February), with over 64,000 confirmed case of the infection, reports France24.

Chinese health authorities Friday said it received reports of 5,090 new confirmed cases of novel coronavirus infection and 121 deaths on Thursday (13 February) from 31 provincial-level regions and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.

Among the deaths, 116 were in Hubei Province, two in Heilongjiang, and one in Anhui, Henan and Chongqing respectively, according to the National Health Commission, reports Xinhua.

Earlier on Thursday (13 February), the National Health Commission had said that it received 59,804 reports of confirmed cases and 1,367 deaths in 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps

Meanwhile, China’s Hubei Province, the epicentre of the novel coronavirus outbreak, reported 4,823 new confirmed cases and 116 new deaths Thursday, according to the provincial health commission on Friday.

The number of new cases included 3,095 clinically diagnosed cases, which have been seen as confirmed cases. The new deaths also include eight who were clinically diagnosed.

The latest report brought the total confirmed cases in the hard-hit province to 51,986.

Wuhan, the provincial capital, recorded a total of 35,991 confirmed cases, including 14,031 clinically diagnosed ones.

The commission said Hubei had 6,169 suspected cases, after 3,689 suspected cases were ruled out on Thursday.

The province also saw 690 patients discharged from hospital after recovery on Thursday, including 214 clinically diagnosed cases.

Among the 36,719 hospitalized patients, 7,593 were still in severe condition and another 1,685 in critical condition.
