No wonder they're single! People share the most toe-curling chat-up lines they've ever heard (and they'll make you cringe with embarrassment)

Valentine's Day is here, but that doesn't seem enough to have inspired the would-be Romeos out there to polish up their chat up lines.

Taking to Twitter this month, British retailer Missguided encouraged followers to share the worst chat up lines they had experienced.

And singletons soon flocked to the social media network to oblige, with some truly terrible results.

The thread quickly racked up 1,000 likes, retweets and comments, with one frustrated singleton sharing her chat up line, which was: 'Let's make like fabric softener and snuggle. I don't even get it...'.

Valentine's Day is fast approaching, but that doesn't seem enough to have inspired the would-be casanovas out there to polish up their chat up lines. Taking to Twitter this month, retailer Missguided encouraged followers to share the worst chat up lines they had experienced

Sharing her worst line, another added: 'Is your name Ariel ? Because I think we mermaid for each other'.

Another tweeted the very cheesy line she received, which was: 'Have you got a plaster? Cause I hurt myself falling for you'.

Others were decidedly more X-rated, including a very rude take on the 'roses are red' poem.
