Manchester United have confirmed the arrival of 20-year-old goalkeeper Nathan Bishop from League One outfit Southend United.

Manchester United have completed their second signing of the January transfer window, with goalkeeper Nathan Bishop arriving from Southend United on the deadline day, the club have confirmed on their official website.

The 20-year-old Englishman is a product of the Southend United youth setup and and made his first-team debut back in December 2017. Since then, the youngster has gone on to feature 38 times for the Shrimpers, with 16 of those appearances coming in the 2019-20 season.

Rumours of a transfer to Manchester United intensified after Bishop missed Southend’s league game against Doncaster, with manager Sol Campbell later confirming that the 20-year-old’s absence was due to the fact that he was completing a medical.

And now, Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Bishop, with the England U-20 international set to link up with the Red Devils’ reserve squad. Speaking upon the completion of the transfer, the youngster said: “The opportunity to join Manchester United is a dream come true.

“This club has a great record of developing goalkeepers and I cannot wait to work with the coaches here to improve every single day. I want to take the chance to thank everyone at Southend United for everything they have done for me throughout my time there; without their support, this move would not have been possible.”

Bishop, who has signed a two and a half year contract with Manchester United, becomes the second arrival at the club in the ongoing transfer window, following Portuguese playmaker Bruno Fernandes, who signed for the 20-time English champions on Thursday.

With little time left in the transfer window, Manchester United are still looking at the possibility of bringing in a new centre-forward, with former Newcastle United striker Salomon Rondon linked, along with Bournemouth’s Joshua King, who was on Manchester United’s books between 2008 and 2013.
