Willow: Ron Howard Confirms Disney+ Show with Warwick Davis Is in the Works
by Meagan DamoreWillow director Ron Howard is developing a Disney+ series based on the film with screenwriter Jon Kasdan and star Warwick Davis.
"We are developing Willow for Disney+," Howard told Collider. "And I don’t know about directing or not, but Jon Kasdan is writing, he’s very passionate about it, great job. We don’t have a green light yet, but if it goes, I’ll certainly want to roll up my sleeves and be a part of that, because that would be great, to revisit that world."
"Warwick Davis is going to be in it and so yes, I think it’s safe to say it’s decades later," he added.
Like Howard said, the project has not received a green light, which means it won't move beyond pre-production just yet. Recently, Davis also emphasized the fact that nothing is set in stone with the project, even though "there's a lot of work going on." However, with Howard, Davis and Kasdan attached, it seems likely to move forward.
The original movie was directed by Ron Howard, written by George Lucas and Bob Dolman, and starred Davis, Val Kilmer, Joanne Whalley and Jean Marsh. Unlike Lucasfilm's other franchises, Star Wars and Indiana Jones, Willow never had any followups or spinoffs, aside from a 1989 video game adaptation developed by Capcom. There was also a sequel novel trilogy, Chronicles of the Shadow War, published from 1995 to 2000, which was written by Chris Claremont and George Lucas.
