Police probe 'targeted' triple firebombing on estate

Police are appealing for information after three arson attacks hit a Wirral estate in just over over two hours.

Two homes and a car were firebombed in the spate of incidents on Tuesday evening.

Detectives believe each of the attacks were targeted.

Emergency crews were called to Wakefield Drive at 4.35pm after a Mitsubishi was set alight.

The blaze spread to a wheelie bin, fence and the door of a home the car was parked outside.

At 5.55pm a fire was started at a home on Grant Road, damaging a door.

At 6.45pm, police and fire crews were called to the corner of Kingham Close and Twickenham Drive following reports a fire had been started at property that was empty at the time.

At this stage all of the incidents are believed to be targeted and it is suspected that may all be linked.

No-one was injured in any of the attacks.

A joint investigation between Merseyside Police and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service has been launched.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Nilsen said: “At this stage we believe that all the incidents were targeted and we are investigating whether they are linked.

“I would ask anyone who was in the vicinity of any on these addresses on Tuesday night who saw anything or anyone acting suspiciously to contact us.

“I would also ask anyone who was driving around the Leasowe are who thinks they may have captured something on dash cam to get in touch.”
