by Maulik VyasMUMBAI: Mekhla Basu, regional compliance counsel for South East Asia for Intel Corporation is joining San Francisco-headquartered software firm Splunk Inc. as its director and corporate counsel for Asia & Pacific (APAC) region.
“Basu will be responsible for all corporate, compliance and employment legal issues in the fast-growing APAC market including China, Australia and New Zealand, in a newly created role,” said a person familiar with the development. “She will be based out in the company’s Singapore office,” the person further added.
An alumnus of ILS Law College from Pune from 2005 batch, Basu had started her career as an associate attorney at Ramfry & Sagar and then moved to K&S Partners.
In the year 2008, she had joined country’s largest pure-play consumer company Hindustan Unilever as legal a manager from where she moved to GE HealthCare as legal counsel for South Asia in the year 2010.
Subsequently, Mekhla joined the software firm Autodesk as general counsel and legal head for India and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region in July 2012. She joined American tech giant IBM as counsel trust and compliance officer for India and South Asia in May 2015, from there she moved to Intel Corporation as regional compliance counsel for South East Asia.
As US technology companies are growing their presence in India, more and more companies are inducting tech-specialist lawyers in India neighbouring markets for legal and compliance work.
Last year in May, Ashish Chandra had joined WhatsApp as associate general counsel from digital streaming service Netflix, making him the massaging major’s first in-house legal recruit in India. Around the same time, Priya Menon had joined co-working space major WeWork as general counsel in India. Also, in August 2019, Sheetal Sawhney Kapoor had joined Netflix in India from Google India as director legal from Google India.
