Mike Dean makes revelation about infamous celebration after Tottenham goal
by Matt Maltby, https://www.mirror.co.uk/authors/matt-maltby/In his 500 games as a Premier League referee, it's fair to say Mike Dean has had several standout moments.
But, perhaps the most iconic of them all is his infamous celebration in Tottenham's 3-1 victory over Aston Villa back in 2015.
After Moussa Dembele opened the scoring for Spurs in the third minute, Dean was seen running away while performing a wagging finger, Alan Shearer style celebration.
The top-flight official came in for plenty of banter following the incident, with some joking that he's a Spurs fan.
And now, Dean has revealed all to BBC Sport, who made the legendary official watch the incident back in an interview to celebrate his 500 top-flight games.
"I wouldn't say it was a goal celebration, I was celebrating an advantage," he said.
"As you can see, but I kind of got carried away with the whole day really.
"It is a foul and I've played on, probably shouldn't have put my arms out but it was good."
Another memorable moment is when Dean controversially booked Sergio Aguero after his title-winning goal for Manchester City against QPR.
Aguero, having just scored the winning goal which secured City's first ever Premier League title, wheeled away in delight and eventually took his shirt off, landing him a yellow.
And reflecting on the day, Dean said: "It's just a massive day from getting up in the morning, travelling to the stadium.
"We got there dead early, we knew what was at stake for Manchester City and Manchester United.
"We had a gameplan that we had to go and execute it was privilege to be picked for such a game.
"It's a great ending. [Aguero] took his shirt off so, as usual because I'm a bit of party pooper, I still had to caution him I'm afraid. Good job it wasn't a second yellow - I might not have done it then!"
