Rush hour chaos in Edinburgh after horror car and motorbike smash on city bypass leaving traffic queued back five miles

A HORROR crash between a car and a motorbike is causing rush hour chaos in Edinburgh.

Emergency services raced to the city bypass around 3.45pm after the smash near Dreghorn.

Cops locked down the westbound carriageway - and it remains closed to traffic.

The crash is causing huge delays around the A720 - with the queues currently back more than five miles.

Diversions are in place for motorists.

Officers are currently still on the scene.

It is not known if there are any casualties following the smash.

According to Traffic Scotland, the busy road is likely to remain shut for some time.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Around 3.45pm, we were called to the A720 Edinburgh Bypass to reports of a road traffic collision between a car and a motorbike near the Dreghorn junction.

"Officers remain on the scene.

"The westbound carriageway is currently closed. Diversions are in place."

The Scottish Sun has approached the Scottish Ambulance Service for comment.
