Word reaching the Siya crew is that Orlando Pirates’ assistant coach, Rulani Mokwena, has rebuffed interest from another club interested in him, and is still with the Buccaneers.

The talented young coach has been the talk of the town in recent months following his appointment as interim head coach off Pirates following the exit of Milutin Sredojevic, and then the subsequent appointment of Josef Zinnbauer.

Now, with his future in the balance, there are plenty of clubs in the Absa Premiership who are believed to have been considering a move for the former Mamelodi Sundowns man, with the crew already reporting that both Highlands Park and AmaZulu have retained an interest in him.

The latest from Siya sources, however, is that Mokwena has rebuffed advances from Black Leopards after they officially parted ways with Cavin Johnson, whitch the coach thought to be looking elsewhere for his next opportunity if he was to move on from Pirates.

As things stand, Mokwena is still contracted to Bucs and will continue his work as Zinnbauer’s assistant for as long as he’s part of the club, but with a couple of clubs overseas believed to be sniffing about – as well as the interest in South Africa – it remains to be seen how long that will be for.

Mokwena was unavailable for comment.
