The L Word: Generation Q is heading to UK screens on February 4.

The sequel to the ground breaking series will be available on Sky Atlantic and NowTV in the UK.

It picks up the story in real-time, 10 years on from the original with Bette, Shane and Alice all returning to the centre of the story.

The series debuted in the US in December last year and it's success has resulted in a second series being commissioned by Showtime.

The L Word originally ran from 2004 and 2009 and featured television's first ensemble cast of lesbian characters.

It became the network's highest rated new show, received positive reviews from critics and received multiple nominations for GLAAD Media Awards.

The entire series will be released on Sky Atlantic and NowTV on February 4.

Who's in it?

Reprising their roles from the original series are Jennifer Beals as Bette Porter, Katherine Moennig as Shane McCutcheon and Leisha Hailey as Alice Pieszecki.

Joining the main cast as new characters are Arienne Mandi as Dani Núñez, Sepideh Moafi as Gigi Ghorbani, Leo Sheng as Micah Lee, Jacqueline Toboni as Sarah Finley and Rosanny Zayas as Sophie Suarez.

While Jordan Hull joins the cast Angelica "Angie" Porter-Kennard, Bette's daughter with her ex-wife, Tina Kennard, who was in the original series but as a baby.

What's the plot?

Generation Q picks up ten years after the final season of The L Word. The story find Bette running for mayor of Los Angeles; Shane as she returns to the city after a setback; and Alice learning to balance co-parenting with her fiancée Nat and Nat's ex-wife Gigi and the rising success of her talk show.

Also introduced are PR exec Dani Núñez, her girlfriend and TV producer Sophie Suarez, their best friend and roommate Micah Lee, and the charming former Olympic swimmer-turned-assistant, Finley.
