Taapsee Pannu’s fitting reply to those who think that her upcoming film Thappad is a counter to Shahid Kapoor-Kiara Advani’s Kabir Singh

One look at Taapsee Pannu’s filmography and you realize that the actress has mostly backed strong women-oriented films. Now, the talented actress is upbeat about her upcoming movie, Thappad.

This Anubhav Sinha film’s trailer was released today and it depicts Taapsee’s character contemplating divorce from her husband after getting slapped by him at a party. The trailer kickstarted a whole new debate as people were reminded of Shahid Kapoor slapping Kiara Advani in Kabir Singh.

Anyway, so netizens like always had something to say yet again. Soon after Thappad trailer went online, they went quite berserk in calling Thappad as a tight slap to Kabir Singh.

The time was right to ask the film’s leading lady about how she perceives this take by the Twitteratis, in other words, the fact that they’re discussing Thappad and Kabir Singh in the same breath.

Taapsee is certainly not amused. She shot back, “We don’t make a film to slap one another. Also, Kabir Singh was not just about slapping, so please stop making Thappad all about Kabir Singh.

We started work on this film much before that film came. Also, it’s not just Kabir Singh that normalised domestic violence. Many of our movies are guilty of that.”

Taapsee clearly wants to be the torch-bearer of a change for the better. “It’s time for the narrative to change,” she asserted.

Kabir Singh which became a big success at the box-office was also condemned by a large section of the audience as a misogynistic film.

Thappad hits theatres on February 28, 2020.
