The Crown will end after season 5, confirms creator

Netflix’s The Crown will come to an end after season five, seeing the recent royal scandals escape the popular series.

Over the past four years, the award-winning drama has given an inside look into the royal family.

However, it looks as though it will be coming to an end after Emma Corrin makes her Princess Diana debut.

Creator of the show Peter Morgan said: ‘At the outset I had imagined The Crown running for six seasons.

‘But now that we have begun work on the stories for season five it has become clear to me that this is the perfect time and place to stop.’

However, the announcements didn’t stop there, as he went onto reveal that Imelda Staunton will replace Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth.

‘I’m absolutely thrilled to confirm Imelda Staunton as Her Majesty the The Queen for the fifth and final season, taking The Crown into the 21st century,’ the writer said.

‘Imelda is an astonishing talent and will be a fantastic successor to Claire Foy and Olivia Colman.’

He continued: ‘At the outset I had imagined The Crown running for six seasons but now that we have begun work on the stories for season five it has become clear to me that this is the perfect time and place to stop.

‘I’m grateful to Netflix and Sony for supporting me in this decision.’

The Crown is available to stream on Netflix, while Metro.co.uk have reached out to the streaming platform for comment.
