You Can Finally Mute Notification Sounds In Android Auto

Google has finally rolled out a much needed feature, the ability to mute notifications in Android Auto.

Sometimes you have to wonder why it took Google so long to roll out a feature as simple and needed as this.

Now, instead of hearing notifications ringing while you are driving, they can be muted so you won't be distracted while driving. That right there is why this feature was so sorely needed.

It's like do not disturb, but you can still see your notifications

It's almost like do not disturb, but unlike the changes to that feature on later versions of Android, you can actually still see the notifications come in. Instead of hearing the chime whenever they pop up.

So if you are waiting for a message from someone, you will still see it, you just won't be distracted by the sound it makes when the notification comes in.

While the biggest reason for this feature is so that you aren't distracted when driving. Another added bonus is that your music won't be interrupted when a message or something comes in. And if you're on a long road trip, that's a big deal.

There is a small bug with this right now though. According to some reddit users, when a notification comes in, it still pops up and stays on the screen for a little bit. But you can still swipe it away like normal. Hopefully that will be fixed in an upcoming update. It's technically not a bug, as that is how notifications were made to work on Android Auto, but it is still distracting. Especially if you are using Google Maps for navigation. As it does cover some of the screen.

How do I mute notifications in Android Auto?

You'll need to use the Android Auto companion app on your phone to find the setting.

From there, you should see a new toggle for "No sound from notifications". Just flip that and you'll be all set.

Now it's true that Android Auto does do quiet notifications when your phone is on vibrate. But you can also opt to just turn them off all the time as well, with this new toggle.

The update should be available to everyone now. So if you have not updated your Android Auto app in a little bit, you're going to want to make sure you do that. So you'll have the ability to mute notifications in Android Auto.
