'We all know' - Chelsea deal Aston Villa deadline day transfer blow

Aston Villa transfer news - The Chelsea forward has been linked with a number of clubs, including Spurs, throughout this window

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has confirmed that Olivier Giroud will not be leaving the club on deadline day.

The Frenchman has been linked with a Stamford Bridge exit for much of the month, with the striker keen to secure regular first team football.

Giroud has fallen out of favour under Lampard this season, putting his spot in France’s Euro 2020 squad at risk.

A number of clubs, including Aston Villa have been linked with him, with Dean Smith keen to secure another forward this month.

Spurs have also been credited with an interest, whilst for much of the month it appeared he would join the growing Premier League contingent at Inter Milan.

However, after failing to sign a replacement, the Chelsea boss confirmed he will be staying put.

"Olivier Giroud in this window has been incredible as a professional and as a man,” Lampard told FootballLondon.

“We all know that there has been interest and I have sat here in every press conference and said ‘if its right for Olivier, for myself and the club’ and he has been impeccable in that period.

“I have got huge respect for him for that and as a player. The answer again is no. Will he leave? No."

Pressed again if there would be any outgoings, Lampard replied: "No, that’s what I am saying. And the no ins means no outs."

Villa have signed one striker in this window, with Mbwana Samtta arriving from Genk. Smith however has made it clear that he would be keen to land another forward, but with the deadline now only hours away, they could miss out.
