Sheffield United striker Oli McBurnie has posted an image of an abusive letter allegedly sent by a Cardiff City fan.

The former Swansea City star was pictured alongside current Swans ace Joe Rodon alongside away fans at the Cardiff City Stadium during the South Wales derby earlier in the month, and came in for criticism after appearing to make offensive gestures towards Bluebirds fans.

McBurnie was 'reminded of his responsibilities' by his Premier League manager Chris Wilder a few days after the controversy had grabbed newspaper headlines.

Now, over two weeks later, the striker has taken to Instagram to share a picture of a letter he claims to be from a fan in Wales.

The letter, which is filled with grammatical and spelling errors, reads: "F*** you McBurnie,

"You are a piece of s*** you want to grow up dont go to Cardiff City you could get your face kicked in you turd.

"Cardiff have fans all over the country so you could be a wanted man your an ignorant peace of s***.

"I hope you have a s*** season and you get injured your a child a pain an asshole your ugly to p****.

The post was accompanied by a caption from the player, which reads: "Nice bit of fan mail this morning."

McBurnie left the Liberty Stadium last summer, joining Premier League high-fliers Sheffield United in a £20m deal, but clearly shares a strong bond with his former employers, having also been pictured with fans during the away game at QPR earlier in the season.

The FA wrote to Sheffield United following the scenes involving McBurnie at the time.

Blades boss Wilder subsequently revealed that the club had "reminded him that he has a responsibility," following the striker's behaviour during the derby, which ended in a 0-0 stalemate.
