NCT tests resume at six centres as lift checks continue

by

The National Car Testing Service says car underbody inspections using lifts have recommenced at six centres across the country, but on a restricted basis.

The full service will only be used for drivers who are due to undergo a driving test shortly and taxi drivers.

It will also be available to motorists who were due for a retest, prior to the lift safety concerns arising.

The centres where the underbody inspections have resumed include Deansgrange in Dubin, Ballinasloe in Co Galway, Athlone in Co Westmeath, Skibbereen in Co Cork, Ballina in Co Mayo and Enniscorthy in Co Wexford.

However, the NCTS says complete tests will not be available to all other customers at this time.

It is urging motorists to continue to book and turn up for their NCT as normal, as the test will be carried out with the omission of the underbody inspection.

Drivers who receive a fail due to the partial suspension of the test are being advised to keep a copy of their Vehicle Inspection Report in their car and to present it to gardaĆ, if required.

The NCTS says it expects to reinstate more vehicle inspection lifts across the network over the coming days.
