I-235 closure planned in Oklahoma City this weekend

by

Interstate 235 will be closed to through traffic at the Interstate 44 interchange during the weekend of Jan. 31, state transportation officials announced this month.

Weather permitting, the plan is to close I-235 at the interchange beginning 7 p.m. Friday. The interstate is expected to reopen no later than 6 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3.

Safety concerns make it necessary to close the interstate while bridge beams are being installed.

Up to four additional full closures of the interstate are expected this year as new bridges are constructed over I-235 and I-44.

Motorists can expect I-235 to remain open with two lanes in each direction during peak commute times, but the interchange will remain an active work zone between N. 50th Street and N. 63rd Street through early 2021, transportation officials said. They are encouraging drivers to use alternate routes.
