Nathan Bishop has completed his dream move from League One strugglers Southend to Manchester United for an undisclosed fee.

The 20-year-old came through the ranks at Roots Hall, where he has made 39 appearances since making his debut in December 2017.

United have completed the signing of England Under-20s international Bishop, who has signed a two-and-a-half year deal and will link up with the development squad.

Speaking to United’s official website, Bishop said: “The opportunity to join Manchester United is a dream come true.

“This club has a great record of developing goalkeepers and I cannot wait to work with the coaches here to improve every single day.

“I want to take the chance to thank everyone at Southend United for everything they have done for me throughout my time there; without their support, this move would not have been possible.”

In a statement from Southend, the club said: “Bishop joined Blues at the age of 16 and his hard work and dedication saw him make huge strides in the academy, impressing enough to progress into the first team squad at a young age and eventually making his professional debut as an 18-year-old against Scunthorpe United in 2017.

“It was the following season that the shot-stopper had an extended run in the side, featuring 21 times in total before making a further 17 appearances in all competitions this campaign.

“His work ethic and attitude has been exceptional during his time at the club and Bishop moves onto pastures new in the Premier League with the best wishes of everyone at Southend United.

“After making the next step in his career, the 20-year-old was quick to thank those who have helped him during his time in Essex.”

Bishop was quick to thank his former club, adding: “I’ve loved every second at Southend. It was an honour to play for the club.

“I want to thank everyone who I met from managers, coaching staff, the guys in the kitchen and everyone, especially the fans for accepting me and helping me throughout my time at the club.

“I also want to thank Lee Harrison and Ox [Mark Oxley]. Both had a massive part to play in everything that happened for me at Southend and I’m truly grateful for all the help and support they gave me!

“I wish Southend the best of luck for the future.”
